Riding in Palm Beach County is good. Year-round warm weather, the coastal stretch on A1A, the bridge over to the island. It’s genuinely one of the better places in Florida to be on a bike.

Palm Beach County, 2024 — FLHSMV Florida Crash Dashboard, finalized
If you ride here, having the right coverage in place isn’t a small thing.
We’re A & J Insurance Services. We’ve been in Lake Worth Beach since 2007 — the office is at 807 Lucerne Ave. We write motorcycle coverage for riders across Palm Beach County: cruisers, sportbikes, trikes, scooters, and mopeds.

The question deserves a straight answer. Here’s the three-year picture from the FLHSMV Crash Dashboard, Palm Beach County, finalized data:
| Year | Crashes | Fatalities | Injuries |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 408 | 30 | 352 |
| 2023 | 452 | 21 | 372 |
| 2024 | 489 | 32 | 404 |
Crashes are up about 20% over that period. Injuries have risen steadily. 2024’s 32 fatalities were the three-year high.
Florida — statewide
motorcyclist deaths, 2023 → 2024 — down
Palm Beach County
motorcyclist deaths, 2023 → 2024 — up
Here’s the part that stands out: statewide motorcyclist deaths fell from 621 to 598 between 2023 and 2024. Palm Beach County’s went the other direction — 21 to 32.
Palm Beach County holds about 5% of Florida’s registered motorcycles. In 2024 it accounted for about 5% of the state’s motorcycle crashes and about 5% of its motorcyclist deaths. That’s roughly in line with registrations — which means the local fatality rate isn’t dramatically worse than the statewide picture. But it’s not improving the way the statewide number is.
A & J writes motorcycle coverage for riders across Lake Worth Beach and Palm Beach County. We shop multiple A-rated carriers — so instead of getting one quote from one company, you get what the market will actually offer.
Cruisers, sportbikes, standards, touring, custom, and vintage builds.
Including autocycles.
Florida treats these as different vehicle classes with different rules; we handle all three.
We re-shop your policy every six to twelve months. If rates shift, we look again.
Florida riders have no PIP. That’s the piece most people don’t know about until after a crash.
Florida’s no-fault system — the coverage that pays your own medical bills after a crash, regardless of fault — applies only to vehicles with four or more wheels. Motorcycles are outside it. Which means your own injury costs come from your MedPay, your UM/UIM, your health insurance, or the at-fault driver. If the driver has no insurance or not enough, you’re looking at those bills on your own.
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is the piece that closes that gap. It’s also the coverage real Florida riders talk about most. When A1A or Congress Ave or Lake Worth Road is involved, the other driver may or may not have adequate coverage.
Beyond that, a complete motorcycle policy includes:
What you owe someone else after a crash you cause.
Your bike after a crash, regardless of fault.
Theft, fire, vandalism, animal strike, water damage to the bike. Florida is #2 nationally for motorcycle theft (4,563 stolen in 2022, the most recent national ranking from NICB — behind only California).
Your own injury costs, regardless of fault. Also the qualifying coverage for Florida’s helmet exemption (riders over 21 who want to ride without a helmet must carry at least $10,000 in medical benefits — a car’s PIP doesn’t qualify).
Standard policies cover the factory bike; chrome, custom paint, and aftermarket add-ons typically need a separate CPE limit.
Helmet, jacket, boots, gloves.
In Palm Beach County, you can ride year-round. “Lay-up” here usually means a rider who’s away for months (snowbird travel, deployment, extended trip), not a winter thing. You can suspend collision and liability while the bike is stored and keep comprehensive so it’s still covered for theft and fire.
If you’ve got a custom or vintage bike, the valuation choice matters at total loss. Agreed value locks in a number; ACV takes depreciation off the top.
The detailed education lives on our statewide motorcycle insurance page. The short version for Lake Worth Beach riders:
For the full breakdown — the PIP exclusion, the moped vs. scooter vs. motorcycle classification, the financial responsibility minimums, all of it — read the complete Florida motorcycle insurance guide.
Your specific situation can differ — we’ll walk you through it, or check FLHSMV.
The local market for motorcycle insurance in Lake Worth Beach has a lot of names in it. National carriers, franchise agencies, online quote sites.
The difference with an independent agency is the whole market, not one company’s rates. Some bikes are easy to place — late-model cruisers, standard commuters. Others take more work: sportbikes, high-performance builds, custom frames, older bikes without recent comps. An independent agent shops the options simultaneously.
More than that: this is a phone-based process. You call, Roberto picks up, asks about the bike and your riding history, and shops it. No phone tree. No voicemail during business hours. Saturday hours for people who work during the week.
We’ve been doing this in Lake Worth Beach since 2007. We know the local carriers, the local market, and the local roads.
A & J isn’t affiliated with any of these — they’re just real, available resources:
Free, funded by FDOT, taught by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office motor officers on weekends at the PBSO driving facility in West Palm Beach. For riders who already have their endorsement and want to sharpen their skills. The PBSO runs the course specifically because motorcycle crashes in Palm Beach County are a recognized concern.
The MSF-developed, FLHSMV-approved course in Wellington. If you need your motorcycle endorsement (or want to earn it the right way), this is the path. Bikes are provided.
